Drapers' Hall

The Court Dining Room

The Court Dining Room stands in the oldest part of Drapers’ Hall, dating in part to the late 17th century. In 1869, John G. Crace and Son were employed to improve and alter the decoration with the additions of coats of arms in the ceiling cove and oak wainscot around the walls.

The coats of arms are of members of the Court of Assistants of the Company at the time of the redecoration. The shields record the year the member was Called to the Livery. Many bear the date 1831, when the number of the Livery was drastically increased in order to support the movement for Parliamentary Reform (a Liveryman then had a vote in the City as well as where he lived).
